Protocols for network communication  Title:
INTRODUCTORY FACTS ON NETWORKING PROTOCOLS
 Protocol layers

Introductory facts on networking protocols

In this chapter, first the seven layers of the ISO/OSI reference model for protocols is introduced and complemented by the four-layer model used within TCP/IP. In Section the criteria for the analysis performed in Chapter are developed, dealing with identifiers, identifiability, linkability and disclosure of personal data. The reader’s attention is directed to the possibility of hidden identifiers which may exist because of multiple reasons. The chapter is concluded in Section 2.1.3.
